CCI Frankfurt's Mandate and Tasks

What is the mandate of CCI Frankfurt am Main?

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Frankfurt am Main endeavours to represent the overall interests of industry and commerce in its district. Furthermore, it is the independent representative of commerce and industry in the city of Frankfurt am Main, in the Hochtaunus region and in the Main-Taunus region (not including Hochheim). CCI Frankfurt am Main has more than 91,000 member companies. Since they include a large proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises, the Chamber sees itself in particular as a partner for business enterprises of that size.

On what legal basis does CCI operate?

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Frankfurt am Main is a public law corporation. It works on the basis of the Chamber Act of 1956 which is valid today in the version of 11. December 2008. In supreme court decisions handed down on this Act, compulsory membership of the Chamber was confirmed as an important guarantee for the representation of the interests of the business community as a whole. This global membership encourages commerce and industry to pull together, irrespective of the sector of activity and size of each company.

What socio-political role does the Chamber play?

CCI Frankfurt am Main represents interests and is also an opinion leader on all economic and business policy issues of its district. On the basis of a social market economy, the ongoing promotion of commerce and industry is one of its most important goals. It serves as an information and communication centre for the entire region. Moreover, it acts as a moderator between the various social positions and schools of thought with a view to promoting the process of social consensus.

What does the Chamber actually do?

The range of CCI areas of activity is very broad: from advising public authorities and legislative bodies, preparing expert reports for the courts, organising initial and continuing commercial and technical training to individual consultancy work for companies. As a self-administrative organ of commerce and industry, CCI is able to offer its members a wide spectrum of services. The expertise of the Chamber's own specialists and the experience of voluntary practitioners from commerce and industry are available to everybody. This is reflected in the specialised departments and, amongst other things, in the CCI Continuing Training Centre and the CCI Innovation Consultancy Service (ITB Hessen). The Chamber's range of services is further enhanced by the services of affiliated institutions such as the Academy for World Trade (AfW), the ISF International School Frankfurt-Rhine-Main, the Frankfurt Junior Chamber, the Frankfurt Heating Oil and Product Exchange and the Frankfurt Real Estate Exchange.
