CCI Frankfurt's Organisation and Financing
How is CCI organised?
The organisation of CCI mirrors the broadly based structure of commerce and industry. The general assembly (Vollversammlung), in which 89 entrepreneurs and senior executives are involved in an honorary capacity, is constituted in line with the weight of the individual business sectors. This "Parliament of the Chamber” is elected every five years by all CCI members. Each company has one vote. The general assembly then elects its president and nine vice presidents and convenes working groups.
How many people work for CCI Frankfurt am Main?
The Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry has 180 full-time employees. They are backed by 420 companies who offer their services in an honorary capacity on the Presidential Council, general assembly and committees. Approximately 3,200 examinors working in an honorary capacity on the examining boards seek to uphold quality in vocational training. The close linking between honorary and permanent staff members guarantees that the Chamber has close working links to industry and practice.
How does the Chamber finance its tasks?
The Chamber mainly finances its tasks from the contributions of the member companies. The level of the contributions is staggered according to the financial situation of the companies and is fixed by the general assembly. Furthermore, the Chamber finances itself from the fees for example for authentications, notarial deeds, and from income for services such as the sale of mailing lists and the leasing of premises for seminars and other events.
Who does the Chamber work with?
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Frankfurt am Main has contacts to all relevant business addresses in its district. It does, however, also bear responsibility beyond the borders of its own district. Together with nine other chambers from Hesse, Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate it set up the CCI Rhine-Main Forum. It chairs the regional working group of the 10 Hessian Chambers. On the federal level, it cooperates with the Confederation of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in whose bodies it represents the interests of Frankfurt commerce and industry. Within the European Chambers, CCI Frankfurt am Main defends the interests of the business region FrankfurtRheinMain. On the international level, it can draw on the worldwide network of German chambers of commerce abroad (AHK) and the Global Network of Chambers of Commerce.
Why do the Chamber and the stock exchange share one and the same building?
The location of the Chamber at the heart of the financial metropolis in Frankfurt am Main is based on a long tradition. On the founding of the chamber in 1808 the Prince Primate of the Confederation of the Rhine, Karl Theodor Freiherr von Dalberg, decreed that the Chamber of Commerce was also to conduct the business of the stock exchange which had been in existence since 1585. Hence, the Chamber was thus responsible for the new building on Stock Exchange Square which dates back to 1879. So, the stock exchange actually has its headquarters in the Chamber building. Since 1991 the Chamber has no longer been the legal body responsible for the Frankfurt Stock Exchange for organisational reasons.
